Our MissionÂ
We exist to create a safe haven for stray cats in Greece by building a dedicated shelter that provides warmth, medical care, and rehabilitation. Our mission is to ensure each rescued cat is healthy, spayed or neutered, and ready for a chance at a loving home. Through fundraising, regular giving, corporate partnerships, and grants, we aim to secure sustainable support for these cats. Together, we can save a life, one stray cat at a time.
Our Core Values
Kindness
We believe every cat deserves compassion, care, and respect. Our mission is rooted in a commitment to treating each animal with love and empathy, creating a safe space where stray cats can find comfort, health, and the hope of a brighter future.
Â
Integrity
We operate transparently and ethically, ensuring that every donation and decision directly benefits the welfare of the cats in our care. We are accountable to our community, our supporters, and above all, the animals we serve.
Â
Action
We take proactive steps to improve the lives of stray cats, whether through rescue, medical care, rehoming efforts, or community engagement. Our focus is on real, measurable impacts, making a difference one cat at a time.
Our Story
The Stray Cat Charity began with one tiny life that changed everything.

During a visit to Patras for Greek Easter in 2025, our founder, Siani Bugtti, came across a mother cat caring for a litter of newborn kittens in a garden. Wanting to help, she began leaving food and fresh water each day to support the family.

As the days passed, one kitten stood out. Small, weak and suffering from a severe eye infection, he had been left behind while the rest of the litter stayed close to their mother. Siani named him Geoffrey.

Hoping his mother would return, Siani cared for Geoffrey as gently as possible. She was careful not to interfere too much, knowing that kittens have the best chance of survival with their mother whenever possible. She kept him warm overnight with blankets and shelter, waiting and hoping he would be reunited with his family.

Sadly, Geoffrey did not survive.Â

Although his life was heartbreakingly short, Geoffrey left a lasting legacy. His story opened Siani's eyes to the daily reality faced by thousands of stray cats and kittens across Greece, animals born into lives of hunger, illness and danger, with little chance of receiving the care they need.

In Geoffrey's memory, Siani made a promise to do everything she could to ensure that no stray cat or kitten is left to suffer alone.  That promise became The Stray Cat Charity.

Today, we are working to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome vulnerable stray cats, while raising funds to build our first rescue shelter in Patras. In this safe place, cats can receive food, veterinary care, love and the second chance that Geoffrey never had. Geoffrey may have only been with us for a short time, but his story will continue to save countless lives for years to come.
Mr Stubb's Story

In March 2025, Mr Stubbs was found on the streets of Patras.
He had no tail, was struggling to breathe, and was wheezing and coughing blood. Despite his condition, he continued to cry out for help. It was clear he needed urgent medical attention and a chance to survive.

He was immediately taken in, provided with veterinary treatment, and given food, warmth, shelter, and the care he desperately needed. Over the following months, his health improved significantly.

Not long after, Mr Stubbs was adopted by Yaya, a Greek grandmother who had recently lost her husband. It was a perfect match: Mr Stubbs needed a loving home, and Yaya needed companionship.

When visited again in September 2026, Mr Stubbs immediately recognised his rescuer, running down the stairs and jumping into their lap, purring and meowing as if asking where they had been.

He was almost unrecognisable. His coat was healthy and glossy, his breathing had stabilised, and the symptoms that once defined his suffering were gone. He was safe, loved, and thriving in a permanent home.

His transformation stands as a powerful reminder that stray cats are not lost causes. With timely intervention, compassion, and a second chance, their lives can be completely changed.

Mr Stubbs’ story is just one example of what becomes possible when kindness is given the opportunity to act.
